Pleaser 1994 – 2009
“Good Dog”
A pound puppy rescued in 1994, Pleaser was probably part Corgi, part Terrier. Pleaser recently passed on. She was a victim of a Diamondback rattlesnake bite. She was bitten while defending her master and her 4 legged family members. Despite emergency medical treatment including antivenin injections she did not make it.
Pleaser was a frequent visitor to Arizona Weimaraner Rescue. All the Weims knew her and she got along well with them.
There is a snake bite vaccine available. While it won’t make a dog immune to the snake bite, it does improve the chances of survival by lessening the effects of the bite. This allows more time to get your dog to a vet or emergency services. The vaccine is not effective against Mohave Green Rattlesnakes; it is effective against most other rattlesnakes including the Diamondback. Initially 2 shots are required a month apart with boosters recommended every 6 to 12 months after.
In memory of Pleaser, Dr. Reiter and Dr. Goldhammer of Village Animal Clinic have offered to provide snake bite vaccinations for only $38.50 for each injection if you mention Arizona Weimaraner Rescue when you schedule your visit.
Rebecca recommends this for anyone who takes their dogs camping or lives in the desert. Joggers who run on desert paths should take heed too. Losing a pet is a very sad thing…
